Do HVAC Companies Install Dryer Vents?

When it comes to dryer vents, you can choose from PVC, metal, or slim ductwork. Which is right for you? If you want to have the professionals do it, you might want to consult with our Portland HVAC experts

PVC dryer vents

When you need to install PVC dryer vents in your home, it’s important to choose the right materials. For starters, flexible vinyl and galvanized piping can trap lint, which can lead to a fire hazard.

On the other hand, rigid metal ducts can be hidden in your home. They’re durable and are much more efficient than flexible ducting. The downside is that they’re more expensive.

While the price of the material might be higher, you’ll have a durable, functional dryer vent that will last. You can even purchase a dual duct kit that connects two appliances. This way, you won’t have to clean up the clogs as often.

Another choice for your next home improvement project is installing a dryer vent in a wall. In fact, this is the most common type of installation. Oftentimes, these vents require only a few alterations.

Usually, these ducts are constructed from semi-flexible or rigid aluminum. Rigid tubing is easy to bend and remove for cleaning. It also allows for smooth elbows, making it easier to make connections between the duct and a dryer.

However, the duct’s most interesting feature may be its ability to reduce the risk of a fire. Lint is a very flammable substance, and this duct will help prevent it from building up.

Unless you have the skill to cut the pipe, you’ll need a tool to do the job. You’ll also have to cut holes through your wall.

Metal dryer vents

There are a number of types of dryer vents, including rigid metal and semi-rigid flexible ducts. Both of these types are designed to reduce air resistance and discourage lint accumulation.

Rigid metal ducts are more expensive than flexible ducts, but they are more durable and offer a higher level of airflow. In addition, they also provide more fire safety benefits.

Semi-rigid metal duct tubing is made from aluminum, and it’s commonly used to transition from one type of duct to another. It’s usually more sturdy than foil duct, and it’s easily removed for cleaning.

The cost of installing a rigid metal duct can be anywhere from $200 to $300. If you plan on using an aluminum duct, it’s recommended to have the duct tested by a national testing laboratory.

Lint accumulates in ducts, which may cause problems such as overheating or slowing down the airflow through the dryer. Lint traps are also a potential fire hazard. Using a specialized cap, however, can help prevent lint from becoming trapped.

The installation of a dryer vent is typically very simple. A contractor will remove the old duct, clean up the site, and install a new one. This will typically take under two hours.

Unless you have an exterior hood, the exhaust vent will be installed behind your walls or under your floors. This will require a masonry bit to cut through the material.

Slim dryer ductwork

There are a number of options for installing slim dryer ductwork. The cost will depend on the length of the duct and its location. Typically, these are constructed from steel. Slim ducts are popular for smaller spaces.

However, slim ducts aren’t a good option for large homes because they are narrow and rectangular. In most cases, you’ll need to have the ductwork drilled through the wall to be installed. Alternatively, you could install a window vent.

There are five common materials used to construct dryer ducts. Each material offers a different benefit. For example, PVC dryer ducts are low-cost, but they are not as long-lasting as metal ducts. They also can break down quickly.

Semi-rigid metal duct tubing is a strong and durable alternative to foil flexible duct. It’s similar to aluminum foil duct, but has smoother walls. These are perfect for transition ductwork in exposed locations.

Flexible plastic duct is also very similar to aluminum foil duct. However, the inside surface tends to clog with lint. This type of duct is not allowed by most building codes.

Rigid metal ducts are designed to be installed below the floor or in walls. These ducts have joints that allow them to bend and navigate around corners.

These ducts are also a great solution for tight spaces. If you need to install a duct in a tight space, however, consider a rigid aluminum periscope duct. Periscope ducts have a wide rectangle shape and can be installed vertically or diagonally.
