Matt Rohman's journey in the HVAC industry began in 1986 at Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon. Taking a sheet metal class with Mr. Vinje, Matt discovered not just a trade, but a calling—a passion for precision craftsmanship and solving problems that keep Portland families comfortable.

That early spark ignited a nearly four-decade career defined by continuous learning, union-level training, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. Matt didn't just take shortcuts to start a business; he earned his expertise through years of hands-on work with some of Portland's most respected HVAC companies.

Building a Foundation Through Experience

After Benson Tech, Matt joined the Local 16 Sheet Metal Union, where he learned the precision and craftsmanship that would define his career. Union training meant mastering every aspect of sheet metal work—from custom ductwork fabrication to proper ventilation design—skills that give Matt an edge when diagnosing airflow problems that many contractors miss.

Matt then gained invaluable experience at Albina Wholesale, a respected HVAC wholesaler serving residential and commercial contractors across Portland. This role gave him deep knowledge of equipment from every major manufacturer—Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Bryant, Goodman, Rheem—and taught him how to match the right system to each home's unique needs.

His journey continued at Sunset Fuel Company Heating & Air Conditioning Engineering INC., where he honed his skills in both heating and cooling systems, working on residential and commercial projects across the Portland metro area. This diverse experience—from single-family homes to large commercial buildings—taught Matt how to handle any HVAC challenge.

Becoming a Licensed Contractor

In 2004, after nearly two decades of experience, Matt earned his Oregon Contractors Specialty License (CCB #187834) and worked at S.N. Of Oregon INC., providing residential and commercial HVAC services. This milestone marked Matt's transition to a fully licensed contractor—someone Portland homeowners could count on for expert advice and quality work.

Matt also became a certified contractor with Sears Heating & Cooling, further expanding his expertise and reputation for residential HVAC excellence. This partnership allowed him to serve even more Portland families while maintaining the high standards he'd built his career on.

Today, Matt leads Efficiency Heating & Cooling with the same values that guided him from day one: honesty, expertise, and treating every home like his own. Unlike many contractors who prioritize sales commissions, Matt believes in transparent pricing, thorough diagnostics, and recommending what's truly best for each customer—even if it means a smaller repair instead of an expensive replacement.
